Don Tonic is an experienced solar energy professional that services the Atlanta, Columbia, Charlotte, and Greenville communities. He has years of hands-on experience in California and the Southeast, is a NABCEP Certified Solar PV Installation Professional (PV-041616-004765) and a licensed electrician by the State of Georgia. Don’s solar career started with humble beginnings. In 2012, he completed the Solar Energy Technology/Technician program at the Coast Career Institute. While completing his 720 classroom hours, he learned about the Grid Alternatives Program. Grid Alternatives installs no-cost solar systems for low-income households. Don became a volunteer to gain some hands-on experience and help bring solar energy to the greater community. Going above and beyond, he achieved the status of roof and ground solar energy team lead.
While working with Grid San Diego, he came under the watchful eye of “Solar Ninja” & industry veteran Marty “Wallaby” Jones. Marty took Don aside and provided a wealth of knowledge on becoming an effective solar energy project manager. Don then gained extensive renewable energy experience as a solar panel installer for Solar City, Sungevity, and Verengo. Later, he became a project manager for Fidelity Home Energy of California. This included solar site surveying, project plan drafting, permit pulling, staging solar installation materials, supervising the solar installation, and completing system inspection. Don’s above and beyond attitude got him promoted to Senior Project Manager.
After relocating back to his native Atlanta, Georgia, Don was a Lead Project Manager for Hannah Solar LLC. Soon after becoming Operations Manager for Creative Solar USA, he developed a system that encompassed every aspect; from solar installer staffing, training, solar system designing, procurement, and installation.
Don then launched Solar Plus with the goal of raising the standards for solar panel installations all across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and beyond. Solar Plus now serves residential and commercial customers in all aspects of solar installation and maintenance. They’re also a recognized Minority Owned Business (MBE) by the Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council.
Don’s an active member of the Georgia Solar Energy Industries Association to help promote solar energy policies that benefit the community.  As a solar power professional dedicated to serving the customers, he takes a hands-on approach to running a solar installation company. As a quality solar provider, he ensures that each project is designed and installed to the highest solar industry standards and codes. Now, with over 1000 solar PV systems installations under his belt, he has extensive knowledge in all aspects of solar design and installation.
